Carry out a survey with your top 100 customers and ask them when they are doing their next exhibition or tradeshow. Log it in your diary or CRM system and send a few of our mailers on promotional pens to them a few weeks before the event and then follow it up by phone. Be persistent and if you keep doing this on an ongoing basis you will find that after two or three years you will have a regular customer base of contacts that require exhibition giveaways.
